Export Trade Compliance Lead

The Export Trade Compliance Lead is responsible for implementing and maintaining processes to comply with US Export regulations for the movement of goods from the US for cross-sector J&J Companies. These Exports include shipments to end trade customers, J&J affiliates, and third party logistics providers in Latin America, Asia Pacific, North America, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Responsibilities/Unique Qualifications
  • Serving as the subject matter expert on US Export regulations, and consult with Global Trade Compliance team on complex legal and business issues
  • Managing the continuous deployment of Global Trade Compliance Standards across companies and functional areas
  • Providing feedback on standards, training modules, and compliance assessment questionnaires to Global Trade Compliance team
  • Monitoring and reporting progress updates for standards, training, and compliance assessments by company
  • Utilizing Global Trade Compliance assessment tools to identify compliance improvement opportunities
  • Implementing remediation plans and local Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitoring progress made to remediation plans and collaborating with Global Trade Compliance team and Law Department to deliver CAPAs
  • Monitoring and reporting updates to Global Trade Compliance Advocacy and execute revisions to procedures to comply with US Customs, United States Department of Commerce, United States Department of State and United States Treasury Department
  • Partnering with USPPI, Global Trade Compliance, and Law Department, when applicable, to submit voluntary disclosures
  • Remaining knowledgeable and partnering with Global Trade Compliance Advocacy to stay current on export regulations and maintain appropriate knowledge to influence updates to existing internal procedures
  • Providing support and guidance to the J&J Exporting companies to ensure compliance
  • Deploying program for Denied Party and Sanctioned party screening
  • Providing access to training and awareness programs to business units to enable them to effectively manage export issues
  • Developing US Freight Forwarder requirements and document in standardized operating procedure to include all of the activities and services to effectively perform export clearance on behalf of the J&J companies
  • Leading the selection criteria for approved Freight Forwarders
  • Monitoring and managing processes to secure and retain Powers-of-Attorney for export companies with Freight Forwarders
  • Managing third-party compliance service provider relationships by setting performance expectations and holding compliance service providers accountable for performance
  • Developing service level agreements and work instructions for North America Managed Service providers
  • Developing documented procedures, escalation plans, and key performance metrics

  • A minimum of Bachelor's Degree or equivalent is required, an advanced degree is preferred
  • A minimum of six (6) years of International Experience with Trade Compliance expertise is required
  • Licensed Customs Broker and/or Certified Export Specialist highly preferred
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of the end to end supply chain is required
  • Customer-centric mindset and multi-sector experience is preferred
  • Strong collaboration skills and able to influence without authority
  • Knowledge and experience in transportation related technology, security, compliance, and import/export processes is required
  • Global Trade Management systems knowledge is preferred
  • Project management experience and/or PMP certification is required
  • Lean, Six Sigma Process Excellence training and/or Certifications is preferred
  • Strong partnering experience demonstrated by creating new relationships that drive cross-functional process improvements
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed, global organization is critical for success
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner to functional leaders in upper management and external partners
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Strong intellectual curiosity and ability to embrace learning regulatory requirements
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time domestically
